Brussels
The Capital of Europe ... only one hour away from Bruges!
Brussels ... Capital of both Belgium and Europe, is a cosmopolitan city where many different cultures live together and where different languages can be heard! It is also the home of the European Commission and the Council of Minsiters of the European Union (EU). This liveliness and international flair is intimately related to its role as a crossroad for all of Europe.
The city is more than 1000 years old. You will also experience a variety and contrast of different architectural styles when you visit Brussels. Gothic-style cathedrals and churches are next to and sometimes in strong contrast with gracious classical facades like the buildings around the Royal Square or beautiful Art Nouveau and Art Deco houses.
The real heart of Brussels and the place to start from is of course the Grand' Place. This historic market square with its splendid guild houses and the impressive Gothic beauty of the City Hall, is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful city squares in Europe.
