    > The Pageant of the Golden Tree (19 + 26/08/2012), city centre
The five-yearly Golden Tree Pageant was first held in 1958. Ever since this first edition the pageant has been organised by the City of Bruges, in collaboration with the Initiatives Committee. The Golden Tree Tournament continues to be the central theme. This was a joust that was 'fought' in 1468 on the market square in Bruges to mark the occasion of the marriage of Charles the Bold, Count of Flanders and Duke of Burgundy, to the English princess, Margaret of York. In addition to the medieval legend of the Golden Tree, the pageant also depicts scenes from the history of Flanders and the ceremonial entry of the bridal couple into the city. The Golden Tree Pageant is a magnificent and enchanting spectacle, for young and old alike. The 'giants', the ceremonial floats and the 2,000 colourfully dressed historical figures are a sight not to be missed!
